It is recommended that kids over the age of 12 months who are not able to brush without swallowing, use a rice grain size amount of a fluoride toothpaste to brush. Once a child is able to brush without swallowing, it is recommended that a parent use a pea size amount of fluoride toothpaste to brush. Drinking tap water is a great way for a child to get fluoride. Professional fluoride application is recommended at each cleaning appointment, every 6 months. For kids that are high risk in getting cavities, profession fluoride applications are recommended every 3 months.

Fluoride is applied to the teeth by brushing it on after the cleaning and exam are complete.
